The Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between the European Union (EU) and Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland (SADC EPA Group) entered into force in October 2016. This comprehensive trade deal has strengthened the partnership between the participating Southern African countries and Europe. To highlight this important relationship, the EU Trade Commissioner, Cecilia Malmström, will be visiting South Africa in October 2017.

Commissioner Malmström will meet with civil society on the EPA as part of her visit and you are invited to join us on Monday 16 October. The objective is to get views on the EPA from a wide range of civil society and business representatives from the region. There will be an opportunity to identify crucial issues in the region related to economic development, environmental protection and social development. The event is also intended to feed into the development of mechanisms for ongoing monitoring of the EPA, and participants can suggest suitable ways to assess the impact of the EPA over time.
