With all the focus on BRICS, many have forgotten that the three real democracies in that grouping are also engaged in an innovative south-south cooperation forum called ‘IBSA’. However, BRICS threatens to overshadow this grouping, and even reduce it to irrelevance. Therefore Tutwa senior associate Andreas Freytag and I, together with Sarah al Doyali, his PhD student, penned an article for the South African Journal of International Affairs on how to revive IBSA’s relevance.
