Subsequent to this post I was interviewed on CNBC Africa about what transpired in St Petersburg. The first part of that interview is available here. And for anyone interested in the issues around Basle 3 and what its implementation means for the South African banking system, Stuart Theobald, a columnist at Business Day, wrote an interesting piece setting out the broad parameters that we canvassed in our Business Day op-ed.

I recently co-authored two pieces previewing the St Petersburg summit. The first, published in Business Day, provides a tour d’horizon of the dynamics around the summit; prospects for the core economic agenda; and the implications for South Africa. The second, published in Business Report, zeros in on what is likely to be one area of consensus amidst a sea of disagreement: clamping down on tax avoidance by multinational corporations.
