Mbini Kutta

Mbini is a trade specialist and negotiator with over 14 years’ experience in the field. Through research, engagement and consultation, she facilitates a strategic approach which seeks to strengthen the contribution of trade to South Africa’s economic development.

Mbini is a Senior Associate at Tutwa Consulting Group where she undertakes research and analysis on trade and investment policies and regulations. Until recently, she was Trade and Transport Policy Manager at Business Unity South Africa, where she facilitated participation by organised business in government’s trade policy processes. After research, consultation and engagement, she drafted business positions in trade negotiations; led business delegations at trade policy and customs issues dialogue; provided technical support to the SA government; and influenced government decisions on trade, customs and transport policy.

Her previous experience includes 12 years at the Department of Trade and Industry (dti) where she was a trade negotiator in multilateral trade negotiations and Deputy Director in three sections: Market Access, Trade in Services, and Cooperatives in Enterprise Development. Prior to her time at dti, she was a Senior Economist in the Economic Policy division at the Department of Agriculture.

She is currently completing an MA Politics (International Political Economy) at the University of Johannesburg, and has completed the coursework for an MSc Agricultural Economics at the University of Pretoria.
